Description

Can anybody learn me how to take good "metal" photos ?

It's one of the photos i took to the little advertise brochure of the laundry service (this one won't be there)... i wanted it to be cold and clean... and abstract of course... still not sure about the effect... can anybody help me?

Well, as a stand-alone abstract, it's an awesome piece; the tones and details are excellent. So +10 for that.

As a marketing piece, I don't know. I for one can't quite tell what I'm looking at, but maybe I'm just dense. However, if this is just one of many photos in the brochure--photos that are less abstract--then I think it works just fine as a front cover photo. Follow me?

Anyway, good work.

as steven mentioned.. nice tones n details. +awesome compo girl! funkyfunky!
guess the cold feel was enhanced if there were more crisp shapes around. everything's pretty soft and fluid.(might also be the reason for the writing/border to not fit perfectly) ...and the white n blue interact in a pleasing way, like stars which also makes an comfortable impression instead of a cold one imo.
(thumbup)! anyways

You asked about matal..
Its a good image, you need very diffused light really sofy, everything White in the cackground so no reflections or everything black.. but the light has to be really Soft... SOFTBOX etc.. I will drop my washing around later. 10+

It's a great stand alone abstract. I like the diagonals and repetition of shapes and forms. Excellent technically also. Very well done.. Top marks.

I really like this, the dark bluey grey makes it look like metallic leather, I know there is no such thing, but it is a great effect.

Cool, but the typography disturbs the image.

Pozdrawjam Marzenka, the photo is already cold, metallic and abstract. And looks very good. But if you want to know the almighty HINT how to shoot the metallic objects, you really need the soft light as ape man mentioned.

If you don't have softbox at your disposal, you can emulate it by simple sheet of tracing paper and direct sunlight. Let the sunrays come through the paper - that will cast typpical clean rectangular shapes on your metallic objects. You can also add piece of polystyrene onto opposite side and use it as reflection board (it's white and not distracting like metallic mylar).

Ideal position is to have reflection board, your metallic object and softbox in one line. Also you shall add black chamois leather to the background to prevent unnecessary reflections.

Ahoj Robert :) thank you so much for this tips... i have to try it in free time, even if it may be very hard in my extra small bathroom ;)

Thanks again to all of You

Arne - thank you... i've changed font, hope it's better now ;)
DreamShadow - thank You very much (blushed)

I agree with the comments above... this is a great abstract! But since I couldn't tell what it was, I wouldn't use it for the marketing piece.

Avatar robertmekis

 03/20/06 @914

Ahoj Ahoj! If you have window at your bathroom where sun may come through, you will need only one cubic meter. Ad absurdum you can hold in hands both - the tracing paper and polystyrene board (but don't forget to set up timer at your camera first ).

It sounds crazy, but it's possible. At least I tried it at this shot (and felt very strange when doing it )

Ahh, finally I got what is on the picture. Putting softboxes INTO washing machine isn't possible. Uless you have some spare one you can break up :p

Avatar patrix77

 03/20/06 @946

haha i thought that everybody knows what's on the picture yeah it's washing machine and it's rather hard to do anything inside of it as long as we can't break it up :p but there in the Laundry Service they have large machines so maybe it will be posible

Thank's again Robert, you're tips are the most welcome

and Allegra - thanks i'm happy you like it, but as i wrote it's just one of this sesion but it won't be in brochure, i love abstract photos, that's why i took it, just for my pleasure ;)

Avatar metapuppet

 03/21/06 @068

;)
+you're starting to cheat girl... wtf. didn't notice the writing as a fake object for the image the first time i was looking at it. i still say it doesn't fit that perfect, but he.. clever :p

now could you please visit my gallery and check for pattern6... same problem, same idea how to fix it, it-wont-work-out.
